Factory fitted VW alarm/immobiliser problems

I've got a problem with the factory fitted alarm on my 1992 SA T3 as its immobilised the ignition and when you open the doors the siren goes off and indicators flash, problem is I can't turn it off and have to disconnect the battery to do so. When I bought the van in September I was told the alarm had been disconnected and this had put the alarm indicator light which is on the dash on and also the engine off light on so the alarm has not been in use. I haven't used this van until last week to go into town and all was fine, but today it failed to start (engine immobilised) with the alarm light and engine off light both flashing, I got out of the van thinking it maybe a flat battery, so opened the side sliding door and the alarm went off (this is the first time it has done this has its supposed to be disconnected). On the steering column cowling is a small key switch with a broken key in it, I take it this is the on/off switch for the alarm? What I need to know is where is the alarm module located in the van, as the wiring from the key switch goes into the main wiring loom of the van so this is no after market alarm/immobiliser. Also would any of the fuses in the fuse box have anything to do with it? Any help would be much appreciated as I have a dead van sat on my drive going do where.

Cheers

If there are only two wires coming out of the key switch either shorting them together or disconnecting them (depending how the switch works) should turn it off. Mine had a VW alarm but with the switch outside and needed shorting to stop it going off randomly.

Thanks for your help.

I'll try bypassing the switch then, lets hope that works otherwise it's going to be a call out job for an Auto electrician and a new alarm.

Glad you like it.

I tried bypassing the switch, but that didn't work, I checked the wires from the wiring loom to the switch for power, no power, so replacing the switch won't disarm it.

After many hours of digging and removing parts of the dashboard and components behind it I managed to find the alarm module in the end, so I pulled out one of the two plug connections and now I can start the van, everything works as it should so I guess I'm sorted. Just need to get another alarm fitted.

Cheers.

Why not see if you can get the old one fixed? It might be cheaper.

He hasn't got the alarm fob to activate it...and it's a VW SA alarm....so not much chance of getting a replacement.
