hey im at work went to move my 89 t25 pickup and its stuck in gear!! drove here fine......

managed to rock it out of gear but when i put it in 1st it get stuck again(isnt easy to get in 1st)

wont go into reverse......

when trying to put it 2nd or 4th it needs a good wack to get it in there!!!

5 SPEED BOX BTW....

could it be the spare wheel underneath jamming the junction box?
or is it something further along the line??

any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!

regards tommy

is this with the engine running?
can you select the gear you want with the engine stopped and then start the engine?

if no, can you select the gears from underneath the gearbox, at the selector?

is this a sudden thing, or has it been getting worse recently, bit by bit?

does this with the engine running and not running!!

not tried it from underneath yet,
its more immediate than sudden lol... drove it in fine came to move it and now all the gears are messed up...

check that the dowel pin in the operating lever's ball cup right at the rear hasn't decided to drop out, unlikely but possible..

No gear changing difficulties or gearbox noises recently?

well over the past week through 1st and 2nd gear there is a slight, i mean slight thund when going up the gear... like a continues tap, tap, tap, tap, tap

like the clutch jumping only slightly but pulls fine!

Contact Aidan Talbot (Beaker on here) ..... sounds expensive sadly.

Yep speak to Aidan.. sounds like the synchro hubs have broken...
Do NOT attempt to ram the gears home and drive... ther are enough broken boxes out there already..

Aidan can advise... if you intend keeping the vehicle, then get him to rebiuld rather than a second hand box...

Does it appear to get locked in two gears at once, like R and 1st, so that it locks the transmission up (jerks when you let the clutch oput but doesn't wnat to move?)

You would learn a great deal at thsi stage by draining the box through a muslin cloth and inspecting the magnetic drain plug

Clive, when our 4/5 sychro hub broke there was nothing in the oil what-so-ever, that was in 3 pieces (I can see it from here on my office window cill ... as a lesson NOT to 'let things develope' in future) Sounds very similar to me sadly

when mine went I noticed a reluctance to change even warmed up and travelling in slow traffic, It went South the next day, fortunately I managed to nurse it home in first. As it syas try to move the gear selector as it goes into the Gbox there are two boltos that hold the selector arm onto the gearbox undo these had pull the selector off to make sure its not anything to do with that, may also be something like the clutch not disengaging? but then you would have drive in at least one gear (whatever you parked it in) As has been mentioned Aidens the gearbox guru, did mine and it works a treat.

Our's was 'reluctant' from 4>5>4 for about 6 months, I checked the oil and thought 'Aaaah, I'll let it develope' IT DID, near Brussels on our Summer holiday

Can't recommend Aidan highly enough, top bloke and extremely knowledgeable.
