Hi,
I'm off to have a look at an auto van this afternoon.
Its a non-runner due to the started motor being shot...
Can this be bump started or towed? If so how?
Cheers chaps!

heres the tip. you cannt bump start an auto, you can tow it short distances in neuteral. change the starter for an easy life.
trying to bump start or towing it will cause major damage to the gear box. cheers jon

yes you can IF the box is built/designed with two pumps. The box needs to have a 'tow-pump' that runs off the output so when its turning (wheels/diff/prop/box/pump) it can produce pressure in the box to engage a gear. You then tow it at the set speed required to produce the pressure and off it goes.
Dont be too impressed , not my reply but someone elses who knows auto boxes intermately!!

funnily enough , my 110 had an ignition fault and would cut out at the most inopportune moment(normally duel carriageways), that had a 4 speed ZF auto fitted and would happily 'bump start' itself with no damage done
