Replacing 5 speed gearbox with an auto

Anyone got any experience of replacing a 5 speed AAP gearbox attached to a DJ engine with a 3 speed Auto box? Frankly I've always found the 5 speed to be the worst of the bunch,and my favourite has always been the DJ/auto combo.Yeah I've always been lazy!
Doubtless there's a whole bunch of implications that I haven't even considered that I'm sure the wise will point out!
