hi . not often do i get stuck but im at a loss with this one.
heres the problem the alternator belt keeps on shreding [ 4 times now].
everything seems good .
new battery new alternator and everything apears in line .
i have checked its charge rate and all is good but it still kills the belt every couple of weeks.

bent pulley?
over tight?
sharpe edge on pulley?
wront pulley, or wrong belt for pulley?

check howmuch free play is in your waterpump
i just had this with mine. my van kept throwing belts and i thought it was down to a bent pull;ey on the alternator.

but tracked it down to a shagged water pump bearing.

when you fix it do you put shims behind to line it up?

The shims go between the pulley halves to increase/decrease diameter of pulley so you can tension belt correctly. Add shims to decrease diameter and slacken belt,decrease to tension. Any spare unused shims go on the outside of the rear half pulley (under bolt heads). I think the reason for that is so the bolts still grip correctly and you 'll always have your spare shims handy for future adjustments?
My belt goes off at a slight angle between pullies but has never shredded. Are all your pulley faces smooth? Might have been nicked with a screwdriver trying to fit/remove previous belts?

elvis might be on the right track . i will check the alignment . it's definatly not water pump bearings. and there are no signs of damage to the pulleys.
