Hey there just wondering if theres anyone out there that knows about the basic wireing of the engine.

ive just put a new engine in my t25 out of an 86 caravelle unfourtunatley i have mixed up the wires and am not 100% where they go.

i tried a few different combinations over the weekend and none of them seem to work and i am also not getting any spark to the plugs.

im really lost without my van as i cant go surfing. if theres anyone in the know living near falmouth id be willing to pay some beer tokens or cash for some assistance. many thanks matt. xxx

Have you bought a manual?... That might be a good idea......

Its pretty difficult to say connect wire X to connector B etc... I know I could sort it if I was there, but I aint...

Someone might be local to you that can help though...

strip it out and start afresh, its not rocket science!

just remember that on a vw, black is live, brown is neg.

give us a bit more to go on, and we might be able to help......

you need the loom from the ig unit to the dissy, plug and play, apart from the brown earth(neg )wire, which can get forgotten!

Sounds like one of you have the early type water system (big pair of pipes across the back of the engine) and the other has the later type (metal 'J' shaped pipe lower left as you look from the back.)

A manual would be a worthwhile investment.

the three wires that go to the carb are for the fuel cut off solenoid, the thermo coil for the chocke and the pull down, and the big red wire under it is the carb heater....

if you have the early water system, the wires will go via the switch in the end of the metal water pipe that crosses the engine on the lhs, if its a late sys they go via the thermostat housing on the lhs front, nr the black box with all the connections in.....
