At the risk of inducing VC fatigue (after the recent exchange on this forum) I meed to pick the collective brain about my situation.
I have tested the VC more scientifically today (well the jack and 4x2 method) and it's failed.
I use the Doka to deliver full loads of firewood.This must(I think) affect the diameter/circumference of the tyre and hence put a strain on the transmission.Short of in- and deflating the rear tyres every time I load/unload is my best option a decoupler?

The standard tyre pressures are fine..
the VC is considered to have a finite life (100k miles) depending on how its been abused (under inflated tyres, mismatched tyres etc etc)

Depending on how many times you tested and what its temperature was and how many times it failed are all subjective...

Whats it like on a tarmac in a tight turn? 1st gear and stops the vehicle even with throttle?

It seems OK when in a tight turn.Even on full lock it will go round with some tyre scrubbing but it doesn't grind to a halt.I don't even have to give too much gas to get it round either.This kind of contradicts the other test but may be a better reflection of the state if the vc.

Sounds better than mine... I have to drop the prop for long runs... else it will grind to a halt...

No Al, it doesn't.. the Tyre Rolling Circumference stays the same, pretty well...
Think about the length of the circumference, all that rubber still has to all travel round once per revolution whatever the shape ??

methinks you worry too much, if it'll climb up a steep hill and do the job off-road, there's not too much wrong with it.

If it doesn't stiffen up ridiculously when on a full lock turn when very cold or very hot then the Vc's probably OK..

Thanks Clive.I guess you're right.Obviously being a bit green where syncros are concerned( and by nature quite cautious!!) I'm keen not to ruin what seems to be a really good vehicle through avoidable neglect.The articles written about the VC and possible consequences of it hardening do suggest a worst-case result. So it's good to get feedback(and reassurance) from folk who know and use the syncros with regularity.Mine is out most days around the fields and woods in the area and since I am only doing shortish trips anyway I imagine I'm not treating it that harshly. After an unusually long trip back today(25 miles)I put it on full lock in our turning area gave a bit of throttle and it sailed round.Must be OK!!

Hi Al, If you are not to far from Bridgnorth Shropshire you are welcome to come and try my Synco to get a feel of another VC. mine is about 10K old, so is pretty good.
