Oil temp sender position (will this work?)

Read just about every bit of information on the subject.....Just wondering ...Seen a VDO temp sender M10x1 fitment, so could this go in the block where the oil pressure sender goes (using the T piece) would this give a good temp reading? ...or, while im on the subject. How about a dipstick sender down the oil filler, or is this a bad idea!!?? This is on a 2lt Aircooled by the way

Teeing into the pressure switch location is not good as it won't have any oil flow past it so you would just get a case temp reading really. I've heard the dipstick ones are not long enough for the CU engine but haven't tried one myself.

Hi Keith, yep read them all
also have used the pressure relief sender on a type 3 (squareback) and the dipstick one in a type 2 with dipstick sender being the more accurate.... What i wondered about using the dipstick sender into the oil filler hole (inside) and not the dipstick hole

You mean tapping a hole into the oil filler tube so a "dipstick" sender would a) reach better and b) wouldn't get in the way/have to be removed every time you check/top up the oil?

Sounds a good idea - with a bit of careful measuring and siting it could work - could do with playing around with a case that's out of a vehicle really. Let us know how you get on....

You can buy a sandwhich plate for your oil filter. These come with holes for an oil cooler or holes for sensors or indeed like the one I have, both. They are not expensive on fleabay.

I was looking at them in the SSP catologue .... What is the hole size/thread? How do you fit one?

again they're not place in the most ideal place, but better than nothing.... im just trying to find the best place/option for the most accurate reading
