Gearbox Questions, T25 and Beetle

Hi,
Can either of the gearboxes be run upside down?
Where are the linkages on each of the gearbox's, I think I've read somewhere that the Beetles are on the side.
Thanks.

beetles are on the front . if you turn it upside down you will have 4 reverse and 1 forward , you will have to flip the diff over - easy enough in a beetle , never done it in a T25. on my T25 its on the side , dunno if it varies over the years though.

Why do you want to run it upside down? you need a lot of ground effect to drive on the ceiling.........
As said beetles have the mech on the nose.. T25 has it on the side..
Both can have the diff swapped to reverse the gears (mid mount)
If you are using high power engines, a T2 (bay window) box as its stronger and more heavy duty stuff is available....
If you want a box setting up/diff swapping, speak with Aidan, sure he can sort something...

I'm toying around with a V6 at the moment, thinking about building a trike, the trouble with trikes is that they are all bodged out of box section or angle and are about 50ft too long.
Basically I'd like to have a reasonably short wheelbase, I was going to run without a gearbox and have direct drive (been done) to a diff I have sitting, but having a look at the gearbox in the van I realise I can get a short wheelbase and have the gearbox hanging out of the back if I can run with it upside down to swap over forward and reverse direction of travel of the wheels.
The reason for the linkage coming out of the side is it will be easier to engineer a gearchange if they are coming out of the side of the box.
If I run it upsidedown I imagine I will have to drill and tap a new drain plug.

Why not try and get yourself a gearbox out of something that has a inverse front mounted engine and is front wheel drive? That might be the easiest solution if you don't already have the box.

SO "mid mounted" then?
You DONT need to have the box upside down... As I have said...
just swap the diff from left to right inside the case........
only T25 boxes are side shift....
But a V6 isnt short and when you have mounted that "mid" then where you gonna sit if you want a short chassis...? On top of the engine?

Renault 21 gearbox works well and diff can also be flipped (rather tha the whole box) and prob adapter plates available as used in many a kit car...
Anyway.. this isnt really t25 related much now is it!!!
