my old van had a sticky needle.the speedo would stop.if i gave the binacle a slap it would start working again and be ok for a while.yours could be the same.either that or you need a new cable.or clock.try replacing the cable.unless you have a spare speedo knocking about....

Be carefull when taking advice to slap or bang your instrument binacle, remember they are only made of plastic,
If you have checked the cable connection on rear of the speedo and you said its ok, the next part is to check that the square nipple end that protrudes out of the near side domed cap in the middle of the wheel, there is a small circlip which holds the cable end,if this is still intact check that the nipple end has not rounded off should be 4 flats with a small groove were clip locates, if it has rounded it can be drilled with a small drill and and put a small pin through (a panel pin ) for example.
To remove said cable from wheel if you look to the back of the wheel you will see were cable enters there is also a little bolted bracket 10mm note the possition its located then you will be able to draw it out from the centre of the wheel to ease drilling refit in reverse order.if all else fails your cable has broken somewere.

My speedo was showing 8mph less that I was actually doing? (Revcounter told me). Dangerous in speed limits!
I thought it was the speedo on its way out but thought I would check the cable. To my surprise I found that the bearing cap that the cable fixes to in the left hand wheel was loose and slipping! I bit of careful squeezing on the cap and now the speedo reads correct.
The speedo may not be working because the cap as come off.
