Hi All
Still chasing the poor running on my 1980 2.0 air cool. I've replaced plugs, leads diz cap and rotor arm and its much better for it. But clearly the carbs have been messed about with.
It starts ok when cold but doesn't idle until warm. So the choke may be faulty? Is there a typical cause for this?
Are there any base settings for these carbs that i could use as a starting point? It would be agreat help f I could set the mixture screws etc before fine tuning.
Many thanks.

Tai pan - get yourself to a rolling road.......that is what the garage had to do to get the best setting for my old Aircooled.
But make sure all the vaccuum hoses are present and correct and not perished first.

The carbs are prob worn out and need a rebiuld so adjusting wont really help... speak with Steve at Gasure as he can rebiuld them.. dont bother with a second hand set either as they will be just as bad unless rebiult..
then ensure all hoses are good and vac working on the dizzy and timed correctly..

Thanks all. I've been reading about the carbs wearing out the spindle bushings on
www.vw-resource.com and was wondering about getting them sorted out. I've found the gasure website
http://www.gasure.co.uk/carbrefurb.htm and will contact him to see if they do a postal srvice for refurbing, unless there's a place I canget it done in Essex-ish area?. Then I guess i'll find a rolling road locally. Anyone know of a place prefably in the sarf essex area?

Sadly Steve doesn't do mail order refurbs on carbs anymore, only a drive in service. So I need to find out where to get the bushings replaced locally first. I might take one to bits and see if I can do it. After all it's not going anywhere like it is, so I may as well pull it to pieces!
But yes, Erithisn't a million miles awy from me, so thanks.
