Hi there
We own a 1985 1.9GL T25 on a B plate does anyone know what kind of weight we can tow? We have a boat approx 2 tonnes which we would like to tow
Thanks Sam

75% of the vehicle weight is rule of thumb--its worth remembering if you exceed the towing weight stated in the vehicle spec that's actually an offence for which you can get fined.
about 1100kg

I would hazard a guess that any standard T25 will have trouble pulling its OWN weight, without adding a 2 tonne boat behind it

A diesel Syncro is allowed to pull 2 tons breaked ..a petrol one even 2.5 tons ex works.
Most 2WD are either 1500 or 1800 kg
In Germany at least, a 2WD needs "special dispensation" from the TUEV /MOT people (i.e a fee and some paperwork) an you could tow 2 tons as well.
Dunno how that would work in the UK

Gross train weight will be on the plate inside the front door.. for a syncro its 4500kgs... for a 2wd its less, (3600 IIRC) so nope 2 tons behind a 2wd is not legal... so 2000kgs behind a syncro and the special "cert" allows 2500kgs..
But how many times have you seen a volvo towing a horse box with a large horse or 2 in it....... now I know little about horses, but guess they aint light... and a 2 axle horse box weight quite a bit...
a 1.9 will find it hard work... but I have towed a large car trailer with my Audi 100 avant on it all the way back from Belgium... and that (trailer and car) had to weigh 2 tons...

imho 2 tonne will be hard work to tow with a t25, you'll be needing to upgrade to a t4

Take a leaf out of 'Top Gears' book....
Fit the boat to the van
