seatbelts

I have an 82 bus (not camper) the middle row of seats had been removed before I got it but I still have the rear set which I plan on retaining and probably converting to a r & r bed. MY question is would a van of this age originally come with rear seat belts. It currently has none and I need to know If I need to add some before MOT or can I get away with adding them afterwards for peace of mind.
