Gearbox compatibility

As my present box is whining and needs to come out for a rebuild I am thinking of putting another one in temporally - question is would a 4 speed from a cable clutch air cooled van fit in place of the 5 speed water-cooled I have now? The bell housing will need changing anyway as I have an engine conversion that uses a modified diesel one but would the clutch then fit and would the 5-speed gear linkage work?

Not sure, but think I've seen posts saying nose cone is different. Beaker(Aidan) is on holiday for a few more days. PM him with your questions and he'll know. He rebuilds gearboxes.

It will fit with work, but ultimatley not worth the effort considering it's a temporary fix.

Cheers, looks like I should use a later one if not getting the 5-speed turned rounsd quickly.
