1.6 diesel glow plug thread size question.

I want to cut a thread for a 12mm glow plug that would normally screw into the cylinder head for a 1.6 diesel.I compared thread&pitch against a metric 12mm tap but the glow plug thread looks finer.Any help for the thread type appreciated.
