AAZ conversion - Turbo trouble, SORTED!

Ive just put an AAZ in my van, its all running pretty sweet, but....

While having a good look over everything once i had got it running, ive noticed that there seems to be a bit of oil leaking from the exhaust side of the turbo.

Im assuming that this is most likely the seals in the turbo?

So.. as far as i see it there's a few options.

1. Get a kit and have a stab at rebuilding it myself
2. Buy a second hand unit and pray that its a goodun
3. Buy a brand new unit (yet more expense) and be happy in the knowledge that its sound.

Anyone got any advice?

I know the Garret T2 is the same fit, but just wondering if these are the only choices. Are there any other turbo's that would be better for the engine with the JX fitment?

Hmmm, just been enquiring about new units, and it seems they're pretty hard to get hold of

Any suggestions....?

i've had a few tubo's recon'd and that wasnt that much as long as the turbo is in overall good nick then its just a seal and rebuild job?

Ive called a few places this morning, but unfortunately most of them seem to think that finding the parts for these turbo's is becoming very difficult.

So far ive not found someone who can sell me a new unit or rebuild it for me.

Does anyone have any contact details for someone who might be able to rebuild it?

http://www.turboactive.com/

or I have an unused rebuild kit for a K14 you can have for £40 posted (less than what I paid!), when I got mine apart I found the impeller was foobarred, so will be getting a rebuilt one when I have saved my pennies up.

Unfortunately Turboactive were the first people i tried.

They cant help unfortunately....

KKK K14 - 6000 is what im after, and they cant get new ones, or parts for them. :(

what exhaust manifold is on your aaz - three or for bolts to turbo?
I've two k14s at home, one three bolt one four bolt, I'll get the model numbers, I think a broadly similar k14 will do the job if it has right fittings for your manifold.

Ive got the JX manifolds on the engine so its the 4 bolt set up.
Weird trapezoid shaped thing.

Many thanks Skell!

Is it the JX turbo then?

Yes it is the JX turbo.

Get a four bolt AAZ turbo and adjust centre housing so oil ways are in correct position. Wastegate pipe will need bending to fit or use one of the JX turbo. Avoid garret.

So some AAZ turbos do use the weird trapezoid mounting then!
I understood that they were all different, shows what i know

You wouldn't happen to have a part number for said item would you?

They changed on 94 model year from the 4 bolt to 3 bolt. Give turboactive a ring and ask about an early AAZ turbo.

If it`s the JX turbo I can`t see why you can`t get it re-conned. I had mine done with no drama, done in 2 days. Try Tait Euroturbos
