I know people don't like this subject being talked about explicitly on the forum for obvious security reasons....so could people please PM me with what/where how they have upgraded their van doors security...see I'm off to Spain.

I'm not interested in the barrel resetting stuff...

I'm interested in deadlocks on the doors really..the slider and boot I can do with padlocks inside...

So any product names and details on fitting would be much appreciated..

thanks

Dead Locks

I spoke to a person with a T4 camper whilst on holiday in Cornwall who had deadlocks fitted when his camper was new. He said they were a complete waste of time because his camper had been broken into in Italy and having the deadlocks had caused so much extra damage to the door and surrounding areas they just wheren't worth it.

An alarm/immobilliser is a good idea.

Basically don't leave anything of value in the camper.

And how do you do that while on a 3-5 week holiday? I travel light, but not light enough to take all valuables with me every time I leave the camper... No need to take a camper in that case. Might as well load up a backpack and just travel with it.

That being said, build a secure lockup in camper to keep valuables in. Park in safe areas, don't leave anything that even looks remotely valuable where it can be seen, including power cords for phone, camera, GPS, etc. Like trundletruc said, good alarm/immobilizer too. Others that have traveled the world in their vans swear by deadbolts though have never had them myself... am thinking about it though...

Well...I've travelled the world myself and been to Spain several times in the van....and I've got an alarm and an immobiliser already (have had for years)...I just want to know where to get deadlocks/a brand name etc

Yeah and I have a safe in the van...

Again ....where to get deadlocks/a brand name etc ????!!!

Might as well just leave it open then! If someone wants to get into your van enough, then they will. But at least you might put them off, especially the opportunist scrote with deadlocks. An imobiliser is a good idea, but it won't stop anyone nicking the sat nav you put under the seat but left the cradle on the dash for. Take no chances, hide everthing, and don't forget to wipe off the 2 big rubber sucker marks on your windscreen where you stuck your sat nav.
