Ok....so far on the list of things to get.... (none fitted yet)

1. the external socket to plug the hook-up into (tick - got that)
2. a small fuse box (tick - have one out of a caravan)
3. a zig unit (no tick - watching on e-aby - any recommendations?)
4. 13amp socket ot two (easy peasy to get!)
5. Cable / wire

I am assuming that the power comes into the fuse box, then off to the zig unit on one cable, and the 13amp sockets on another?

Hoping to use it to charge the leisure battery. Can thaty also charge the main battery?

And now that Pete is not available, anyone in the club got the know-how or recommendation for getting these fitted....or are they DIY- able?

thanks
Emma

Simple DIY job, just plan where you are going to put everything, sounds like you've got all you need.

The cable to the sockets has to go via the consumer unit fused side.

The consumer unit should have 2 x 10 amp fused trips or 1 x 5amp (lights) & 1 x 10amp (sockets).

Hook up cables are fitted with reyrolle type plugs, remember to have the plug with the unexposed pins going into the van connector ( this will be correctly wired up on a 'bought' hook-up cable). When you have completed the job don't forget to test that the RCD works correctly via the test button.

I seem to recall someone on here had a simple diagram for the very job.

Wire everything with 16 amp rated cable, and make sure you get the RCD protected unit like Tex says, you MUST wire from your hook-up input socket to this, BEFORE any wiring outputs to your plug sockets etc.

Thanks everyone for your assistance.

will revisit this topic when I am more prepared in terms of where to site it all.

Just a thought.......if I get a zig/12v distribution with an aux socket, can I use that to select the propex heater??

Am hoping so, as I would like control over that. too!

cheers all
