Towing with a 2.1 petrol injected

Hi

I going to look at a late model 2.1 petrol injected automatic T25 this weekend. At the moment I've got a medium-sized caravan that I will need to move up and down the country from time to time. Does anyone have any experience of this model as a tow vehicle? Extra oil cooler necessary? Recommended towing limits?

Any answers before the weekend would be really appreciated. Thanks.

I would just make sure that all the normal service items are thoroughly checked. The 2.1DJ has an oil cooler fitted as standard, and as long as everything is working well you should be fine. There is also an oil cooler for the gearbox which also uses the engine coolant, and I would imagine that the gearbox oil is going to suffer more than the engine oil, so spend some time making sure that the oil is good, and if possible change it.

Personally I would check all the bolts on the tow bar, as they have a habit of working loose. And have the rear tyres at their top recommended pressure.

I have always prefered auto's for towing, but have only towed small trailers with an auto velle, not a caravan. you should have no probs, but I cant remember the last time I saw a Caravelle towing a caravan. Good luck. I think the max towing weight is 1500kg so it will tow any single axle caravan. I cant be sure as my handbook is in Finnish.!
Simon.

This always amuses me.

Sorry. No experience of towing a caravan, but I towed a broken down Bay window for 10 or 15 miles last year. I was amazed at how well my 2.1 auto caravelle responded. Obviously I was keeping the speed well down but the velle had no trouble getting up the mid Wales hills we encountered.
