I wonder if any one can help with my deliberations. We have a great awning a Reimo Tourmobil XL but what I have found is that if you are away for just the weekend then it is a pig and you just spend all weekend erecting and putting away. What I have been thinking is to buy a smaller awning for weekend excursions. The ones that I have been looking at are the Khyam Ridgi-Dome Motordome Tourer Motorhome Awning and the Herzog Olymp they both to claim that they can be erected in minutes and that they are on or around £250. Any thoughts?

We have the Khyam Classic for longer stays and now a Fiamma Caravanstore for shorter stays and touring. Camperlands is a good place to start browsing.

We have a Kyham Motordome Tourer (see photos in my garage). Pitches in about 10 mins by one person, down in less.
If we stay anywhere for more than 1 night we'll use it but, like Ian says the Fiamma pull out awnings are better for a 1 nighter.

I could do with the same sort of thing, but I was thinking of a sun canopy instead like this one from the campershop. The only draw bach is that it's open ended but is it's just for a shelter / storage for the night no problem.

We bought one of these this year, only used it once but its very very good and very small to carry around.
Takes about 10 mins to put up and you can always put a wind breaker accross the front of it

the type ian is on about is the same as this, it can be put up/put away in about 2 minutes by one person!

got a Hertzog one, it's fantastic and is up in 10 - 15mins

Looks more secure than the basic roof only sun canopy

It has made for some very interesting reading. Simple can you tell me where you bought the Herzog awning that you have. The Kyam tourer that I had looked at is unavailable every where I have looked.

Have you tried Yeomans Outdoor stores? We got ours from them when everywhere else was out of stock, even Khyam couldn't supply us one
Yeomans don't stock them but, they had ours for us within a week of ordering.

If you don't mind it not being drive away.
We have sorted a cheap (£30 off flea bay) caravan porch awning shaped like a half a hemisphere (think that's a legit shape description, google Elite Awnings and you'll get my drift. There are plenty of other makes but the awning needs to be the width of the sliding door reveal, plus the door in its open position so they don't foul)
We fitted a profiled aluminium channel (£13 for a length from a caravan dealer) to the high top in a gentle arc to take the slide-in "head" of the awning. Found we had just enough channel left over to fit a length under the sliding door that attaches the skirt beneath.
This gives us about 2.5 x 2.0m square of space attached to the van, weathered and relatively secure.
We can put it up and down in about 10 minutes (three whip poles, four ground pegs and two guy ropes) and packs away about the size of a two man tent (ish). This is ideal for us as most of our travelling is one or two day stops when we know we don't need to move the van on.

We are however looking for a pukka drive away awning that isn't the size of a small planet, nor weighs a ton, nor needs two miles of coloured insulating tape for pole connection fun and games (as is the one that came with the van) .
