sorry if this question has been answered somewhere, I looked in the wiki but the only reference I could find was to place co detector near fridge.

basically I have bought a secondhand co detector, I understand how to wire it up, but is there anyway of testing that it works? I'd rather not fit it thinking it will go off if needed, if it isn't going to work, and we all wake up dead (if thats possible!)
