Want to fit one to my T.25 Hi Top. Where are they normally fitted? I have no batteries under the front seats - will it fit there. Home completed van - so don't ask me which conversion I have!

Do you mean one of these? It heats water, and uses the heat outputs already in your van.

The above ones use either petrol or diesel from your vehicle and are quite expensive to fit due to plumbing and wiring complictions. They are normally fitted in the engine bay. I take it yours is a diesel.

The most simple soloution is to use a gas powered air heater like this one.

Which can bolt onto the floor of your camper under the bench seat, needs three holes cutting, two through the floor for intake and exhaust, and one through the furniture for the hot air output. This unit then just connects to your existing gas bottle, and is controlled by a thermostat. I dont think there is sufficient room in the battery box, but where there is a will theres a way. You would get mud and water in the exhaust from the wheel arch where you would need to put the inlets and exhaust.

Most aftermarket fitted Ebers are fitted under the rear seats, there are usualy a few knocking about on Ebay etc, taken out of ex-BT vans. They go for around £200 mark, just MAKE SURE you get all the bits, wiring loom, fuel pump, thermostat/controller etc.

Wasnt too hard to fit - i just need to get the damn thing to work again (it worked fine for three years).

I was way to drunk last night so couldnt be assed to get under the van today - doh!

in most cases i have seen where peeps have retro fitted heaters to their van have fitted then in the passenger side foot well up behind the glove box. this is good because you can exit the inlet and exhaust pipes through the bulkhead and out behind the headlight! also if you are fitting a diesel heater to a petrol van there is enough space to fit a small tank of fuel on top of the spare wheel!

propex imho is a lot easier to lookafter and run, but it does cane the gas alot!!

Thanks fellas. I fitted one to a Landrover a few years ago so I know a bit about them. Main point is to make sure you use heavy enough cable between battery and heater as they are very susceptible to voltage drop. I already have one but my problem was where to fit as I don't want to lose storage space under the bed. Looks like It will have to go there, though. Best place to get a used reco one is Beaulie Boat Jumble. There are always a couple of stands selling them from firms who recondition them. Not cheap, though - £500 - £600!! But you get a good one, with guarantee, and all the necessary bits and pieces, cause without them you are in trouble.Excellent firm for repairs and bits and pieces is Espar at Plymouth. If yours stops working at any time, particularly after several months idle, check your electrical connections. End of winter run them on half a tank of paraffin or white spirit. They love that and it leaves them all nice and clean inside for the idle summer months.
