Can any one tell me which colour wire it is that comes either out of the relay / fuse that would be the intermitant feed to the wipers? Its a late type fuse box with the blade fuses, 1986 diesel.
Reason why, I just fitted a rear wiper, and I want to try and see if I can link it in with the ft intermitant without anything melting/blowing catching fire, so I can see if they work together.

hi lambro i have a rear motor which i intend to fit sometime is it an easy job had you wiring to the rear door if not how did you go about wiring it up.

The front and rear wipers are separate and have separate relays.

Are you saying you just want it to work or are you being over anal and wanting front and rear to wipe at the same time.
if you are wanting them to wipe at the same time Im sure you have something better to do!
The rear one is not on constantly, they are intermittant anyway.

You push the lever away from you to turn it on, the push it again to turn it off, you push and hold for squirt.

I have never retro fitted one, but I should imagine VW have already put the wires from the column to the fuse box, you then add relay and find the output wires from the fuse box, you may need a big bag of terminals and some crimping pliers for non insulated terminals, then add terminals to the coloured multi plugs.
You need a wiring diagram to determind which connectors and terminals do what.
or have you been clever enough to get the loom and rear reservoir?

Master Baxter, over anal? Well err, erm, no just didnt know the switches were all the same, and they already had a position for the rear wiper built in, or are they indeed different?? All I was looking at doing was sending an intermitant feed to the rear wiper easily, the front of course has one, so thought Id try?

But having had a look at Hacksawbob's diagrams, I believe the wiring is all in place from the switch to the fuse box, so will get a relay and try it.

I also retro fitted a heated rear window as well, the wiring and fuses etc are all in the dash for that as well.

The front to rear wiring was not there, and that was fun as I have an Autosleeper, they cut and fold the roof channels for the conversion, so some bits are more tricky to get them to where they want to go. I ran mine along the N/S roof section, and down the A pillar to the fusebox, which I think the factory wiring would have gone this route. Not sure if the early fuse boxes / dash has all the wiring as my later blade fuse type did!
The job itself was easy, measure three times, then you only need to drill one hole My late tailgate has all the mounting holes all there, I brought a wiper assembly from syncrospares and bolted it up. Not fitted the washer bottle and jet, as my wadrobe is in the way, dont really need it, I can send the wife out to clean it if its that dirty
