I'm wondering if my eber problems (wont stay on for very long) are related to my exhaust.

Does anyone else run their eber with an exhaust on the outlet (i haven't got one on the inlet) ?

Hiya mate, you have to stop the exhaust fumes entering the 'combustion air inwards' part ... it senses it and shuts down. The ideal is to have the same length of INLET pipe and EXHAUST pipe (i.e. ballanced) but pointing in different directions.

I take it you've got fuel and upwards of 12v ?

what fuel is in the tank ?

try starting it on abot No2 on the rheostat...........

mine does this, wont run very long on full chat ( about 15mins) but will run for hours if i start it on No2........... i beleive it is the flame sensor faulty, but have yet to investigate

They are supposed to be pretty critical on having the correct inlet and exhaust hoses, or the right length. It`s a "tuned" length thing, or it affects combustion, and also noise from the exhaust.

You don`t want the fumes venting under your `van anyway, it`s poisonous gases

OK dudes, i didnt explain very well.....

I mean a silencer on the exhuast. I have a silencer on the outlet but not the inlet.

It does work better on number two than any other number - but it still only goes for 15 minutes.

I shall have a look at the fuel pump and see if that is partially blocked....

Volts are fine (still happens when the van is running and theres 13.5v on the battery) and fuel comes straight off the engine diesel tank.

so what fuel are you running it on , only ask cos we watched you start up the van and it was smoking like a chip fryer , and an ebber wont like the veg oil ,

check the glow plug and strainer

Lol - thats dodgy glow plugs on the engine - not chip fat!

I changed the glow plug and strainer last week - so it's not those....

The strainer was coked up a lot - i was kind of hoping changing that would fix it....

You say it shuts down after 15 minutes; how do you get it restarted? Do you have to disconnect the electrical supply to get it to run, or does it just fire up again on it's own after 15 mins?
Where is the eber fitted? Is there adequate air outlet for the warm air - maybe it's just drawing heated air back into the eber and thinking it's reached temperature?

I have to switch it off - then on again to get it to work again.

Im quite confident that the installation is ok - as its worked fine for years previously!

Im going to have a look at the pump this weekend - other than that i will have to have a look at the fuel sensor...

PS. I take it no one has a silencer fitted then ?

I put a exhaust silencer on mine , for about a week , it didnt like it , so off it came

Try cleaning out your exhaust pipe

On the Eber, on the Eber

It gets clogged up with gack and restricts the gasses, it can affect it.

Well - i took the silencer off - and now the heater works!

So, im now wondering if fitting another silencer on the inlet (as well as the one on the exhaust) will balance the system ?

It bloody noisy without one (however, its also nice and warm!).

Anyone going to the bonfire bash that has one i can try out for 30 mins ?
