CV Joints

I bought two Q-Drive CV joint kits from Europarts yesterday as they are close to me.

These were listed on their website as suitable for 1962-92 T25 1.9, mine is 1989

The kits are marked "suitable for Audi" and come as a complete unit on a splined shaft. There are no holes for the bolts.

They've sold me the wrong kit haven't they?

No bolt holes - wrong item. They sound like the outers from a front-wheel drive acr.

When you get the proper ones get the gkn/lobro ones if you want them to last.

Turns out this was a result!!

I returned the CVs and got my money back, then got under the van and took the driveshafts off. The CV joints were fine and I was scratching my head wondering where the weird noise I'd been hearing was coming from.

So I took the wheel off and looked inside the brake drum. Lo and behold one of the spring clip retainers had corroded off and the spring was rattling round inside.

Hopefully this will be a darn sight cheaper than new CVs and its the last time I listen to a mate's diagnosis without taking everything to bits myself!

Can you buy these clips on their own or do they come with pad kits?

Try your local brakes parts place, see what they`ve got listed. Fitting kits don`t usually come with new shoes though, so they are probably available seperately, if not from your local, then try VW dealer. You may be surprised :)
