Hi All

After finally getting my Aircooled through the MOT and recieving a bit of work bonus. I have decided to take sell my Aircooled and step up to Watercooled.

I was looking at a 1.6 Turbo Diesel 5 speed. Can anyone give a recomendations on these, or really best to go for a petrol 2.0 litre?

Good engine, as long as you get a good `un :) Most will have lots of miles on them now, so look for either a recently rebuilt one, or budget for spending some money when required.

Head gaskets, head problems and turbos seem to be the recurring problems when you read posts. Check for oil in the water, water in the oil, proper power when under load etc. Get it nicely warmed up after a run, and while it`s running, open the rear engine flap/numberplate and remove the cap off the expansion tank. Look very carefully for bubbles coming up in the water, if you see anything, WALK AWAY. (wish I`d known this when buying) :( Or at least budget to get the engine rebuilt (over a grand)

When you go and see it make sure the engine is cold. As when i got mine the guy had warmed it up which stoped it smokeing like a steam train. Fixed mine by putting a new engine and turbo in it just short of £3000 so bewhere. Pleased now but poor.
