Fridge/coolbox help

Hi all
My Multivan came with a 12v/220v Fridge/coolbox It seems to work if i plug in into the mains but the 12v ciggarette lighter type socket was busted & the only one i have found to replace it had a 5 amp fuse in!
I have just wired this up & tried it in my van but It blew the fuse!
Can I put a higher amp fuse in it? ( if so what rating?)
Or is there a promblem with the fridge? or do I need to get a differant lighter socket/lead?
Oh by the way it is a German, 'Real Electrico' one!
Has any one heard of these/ got one?
