i have a 1989 1.6td westy cali the night heater does not work the guy who i brought it off said it just needs a new glow plug.can any body tell me what model heater i have so i can look to order some parts,also where is the best place to get the parts from.are these heaters any good??

there should be a model number on a label somewhere! canyou take a picture for us to have a look at? and yes these heaters are very good you'll wonder how you camped without one once you've got it running well!

If it`s the flat pancake one under the sliding door sill then it`s a D2L
The part number for the glow plug is 25 1384 01 00 02 (or new equivalent)
Can you hear anything happening when you switch it on? Could be numerous things, it should run the fan first, then you`ll hear the pump start clicking and it should fire up then (low roar).

the fan comes on then the clicking but nothing after that ie no heat also ive looked under the van and the heater exhaust heads across the van and stops in front of the lpg tank surely this is not right

have the van running when you start the night heater , if the leisure battery is low it will stop the heaterigniting, if it works when the van is running the leisure battery is obviously low... glow plug is easy to change but it may not be the cause...

Exhaust pipe should exit level with the sill lip, behind the gas tank, in front of the rear wheel.

Maybe it`s been chopped, I would look at extending it again, as the length is supposed to be fairly critical, I read somewhere that the inlet and exhausts are a "tuned" length to make it work quietly. Piece of copper tube or similar would work I think.

The wire run from the lesuire battery to the heater was on the limit of its current carrying abilities when it was new. As with all wiring in car, vans etc as it gets old it starts to corrode and such caries less amps. any way if you have a look the battery charger for the lesuire battery, it has a wire running to the lesuire battery, split it (one to the heater and one to the battery charger) and run this wire along with the original so two wires to the heater positive side and double up the ground.

Just a suggestion but its worked one mine and it never fails to start now engine running or not.
