Due to change the oil and was going to sort it myself.
Last oil change was done at the garage whilst I was there, the sump plug was really badly chewed and the mechanic removed the strainer instead. I asked him about the sump plug and he said he would leave well alone.

Any suggestions?

Will I likely get the proper plug off without any damage and where can I find a replacement.

Seems a pain taking off the strainer as the drive will get covered in oil

Buy a new one from VW dealer first, then molegrips to get the old one out. If it`s not budging then it`s decide whether to leave it, or get it out. It should come out with heat and some manual force, but may pull the alloy sump threads with it, so be prepared for having the sump helicoiled afterwards. (ie, don`t do all this just before you HAVE to use the `van for an important journey, give yourself the time)

Mines the same/worse.

I just drain the engine via the oil strainer.

Ok, sounds like I am best to drain through the strainer
I'll wait till it goes in for the exhaust and look at the original plug then.

Thanks guys
