I done all the failure points on my MOT form, thrn the garage noticed 2 more that need doing. Obvolsuily they missed them first time around.
One rear foglight only working
Number plate lights, no plastic lenses fitted.
On MOT testers guid says test confimed to one rear fog light. Also the testers giude in regards to the number plate light says if no white light directly showing then not a issue

I would have thought 1 fog (rear?) working on the correct side (ie right) is fine... most are only wired for 1 in any case.. and do not have to be mounted in pairs.
so what if the number plate lens is missing.. as long as no white light is being shown..
Tester being pedantic I would say...

Too many toys is right.
Only one fog fitted, on RH side. As long as number plate lights are lit, no probs.
Sounds like the tester is a tool.

Agree with the above.
I'll throw this one in as well for future reference just in case anyone get's pulled for it.....highly unlikely when you read it but at least you know.
It is an instant failure if your vision is obstructed by anything within 40mm of the outside sweep of the windscreen wipers....namely the tax disc or breakdown cover sticker.
How do i know...well a mate took a MK1 Jetta for a pre-test the other day and the tester is being "watched" by the Ministry for a previous misdemeanor...he'd previously passed a car with a teddy on the dashboard...yes it's true!
He mentioned about the tax disc/wiper obstruction and included it on the fail sheet for the Jetta. He didn't want to but the gestarpo from the MOT were creeping about and he couldn't risk another a*** slapping.
So unless you've put your tax disc in the top left hand corner away from the sweep of the wiper blade and it's not obstructing the view of the driver the MOT tester is within his rights to fail it.

According to mot stuff, all lamps/bulbs etc. have to be sealed from moisture/water etc. so a lens cap missing on any bulb could be a point of failure.

Yep, them sunstrips are failures too.
I used to love watchin boy racers scrape them off when I failed them.
I think the wording goes something like..
"Sticker or obsctruction encroaching more than 10mm into the swept area of zone A is a reason for rejection". (zone A being the area directly in front of the driver.
Then, any sticker etc that encroaches more than 40 into the rest of the swpt area is also a reason for rejection.
Plus, air fresheners dangling from the mirror, they gotta go too.
There should be nothing in the windscreen other than a tax disc.

I wonder if every Ministry vehicle has the tax disc where
they say it shouldn't be?
But then again they'll probably not have any cars that are over 3 years old...so no MOT to fail.

Almost all VI staff use their own cars.
They use the theory of "do as way say not as we do" I used to challenge them on everything just to pi$$ them off.

Hi
Thanks for the replies. The note said OSR fog light not working. So yes it was just the one that not working. The way they said it one wasn't working but the other was. Hopefully just a new bulb.
I gota securely fix the lens as 2 of the screws holes of the lense have broken off leaving it nothing to aifx to. I am going to drill a samll hole and bolt it so hopefully fix that.
I must admit though I have nver come across a MOT tester ile this before. It's like they just don't want to issue the certificate.

GSF sell number plate lights for £5.60 plus VAT.
There is a branch in Watford
http://www.gsfcarparts.com/contact/map. ... on=WD187EN
Or alternatively VW sell just the plastic lense cover
Part number 251-943-121
Vagcat says 1.4 euros so it will be around that in pounds

Me and Marcus always laugh about the big rufty tufty lorry drivers we've both worked with who have teddies and flags and assorted toys littering the cab ... a big

down at the test station.
