what's the difference between a reimo and a westy?

no not a tommy cooper gag! Just wondering if anyone can tell me what to look out for. I've been looking at westfalias so I'm fairly clued up on what kit they come with now, but I've got a sniff of what might be a good Reimo. I was wondering what the spec is (was? should be?) Are westies really that much better spec and quality for the extra money?

Very few of the (German) Reimos would have been factory fitted.
Reimo's original business was to mainly sell kits and parts from their catalogue.
So most Reimos would be DIY fitted and fairly individual, as Reimo had lots and lots of different layouts and roof designs to choose from and mix and match.

what else is there to say, the Germans looked at the space inside and made the best use of it!

The quality of a Reimo conversion stands and falls with whoever fitted it.
The furniture as such is of very good quality and they had some very nice (nicer than Westfalia) designs and surface patterns.
The choice of roofs was better and some of the storage solutions were better than Westfalias.
A lot of Reimo converters did save on expensive extras though ...like heating or external tanks for example.
Every Reimo conversion needs to judged by how good it actually is in the flesh, you can't generalise

we used a reimo kit on our van good stuff but like peps say depends what you put into it westys seem to have more tanks etc as standerd

hi ive got a reimo conversion done by cmc in hythe kent its got what they call a florida 80 conversion wich was done in 1990 at a cost of £4800 plus vat or a converted new van at £15.140 so they where not all diy jobs,also have under floor water tank no heating but on the plus side its got a grill so i get to eat toast
also the high top is double skinned so warmer than a lot of roofs. do i think a westey is worth 2 or 3 grand more than mine not realy but westys are still good vans at the right price cheers dave

I looked at Westies for a while and what I found eventually was a good Reimo.
It was converted by CMC in Kent with the grill, underwater tank, electric mirrors, rev counter and the interior was fitted out to a high standard like the westy .
Also, Its not a high top nor a pop top its a sort of inbetween, so you do not have to raise the roof to walk around inside.
The biggest plus for me though was it is a right hand drive.
