The steel protection undertray from below the engine in my syncro appears to have had some material attached in the past. The remnants were fibrous (maybe fibre glass strands?) which suggests that it was some form of sound absorber.

Can anyone confirm that they were fitted with something like that?

Can anyone suggest a material to replace it with? I guess it needs to be oil, fuel, heat & water resistant!

Yes, it was a weird mixture of stuff, broken bonded foam chippings?

Quiet slabs (mineral) and Noise Killers(lead sandwich)

There must be other variations and suppliers

I've used some leftover quietlife stuff,as the original spongey oily stuff was well past its sell by date!
If you use the "damping pan" without insulation,and then insulate it even partially,a lot of the higher frequency clatter seems to get soaked up.

Note the extra sleeve to cover the exhaust,even thats deadened!
Must have sounded quiet when new!!
