Hi just got myself a club joker pop top for general driving / surf trips and was wondering if anyone has any info on drilling through the fibreglass roof to fix eyelets through to enable surfboards to be strapped to roof (and still enable roof to be lifted with boards on)? Is it possible?

my t3 cal pop top had the roof rack runners already bolted to the roof when I got it, they go through to the inside, I've had no weaks, but ensure the rubber seals are in good condition, there are roof racks on the market that have no drilling, they stick/suck the panel creating a vacumn, have seen on a beetle. sorry don't no were to get them, surf the web and you may have look.

I just stick mine in the back makes life alot easyer

Just got my thule roof rack it goes up past the gutters by 60-76 cm. This allows me to put two stand up paddle paddle boards on my hightop All in it cost 190 quid delivered. It attaches to the gutters and is well made.

I've got a Devon moonraker pop top and I've put a couple of hooks about 24 inches apart just to the rear of the skylight. I run a strap through these and around the boards to hold the boards down at the back. At the front I run a longer strap through the open doors and over the top to hold the fronts down.

I have 3 boards ranging from 7ft to 9ft 6in and it works a treat.

I used plated bolts for the hooks at the back and cut a couple of rubber squares out to use as feet and so far after 3 years, leak free.

I will post a couple of picks if anyone needs them.

Thanks Kilgore - I guess you've had no cracking in the roof by drilling through?

No problems so far.

I just made sure that as well as making some rubber feet to stop any leakage I also used 1 inch+ washers on both inside & outside to help spread the load which for that matter is only as tight as you pull the straps.
