Any one know the internal thread size of a standard gear knob or the external thread size on the top of the lever?
I'm wanting to make a stainless steel extension, seen 'em on ebay for £15 . Could make one for nowt if I knew the thread size  .
Looks like it could be M14 or 9/16" UNC, can anyone confirm this?

More likely to be M12 or M14 I'd have thought.
Just use your thread gauges or dies to check it's not Metric non-std (fine) or run a nut up and down it. Wheel nuts are M14?

It's definately METRIC, 12mm i would have thought 'cos it looks way smaller than a wheelnut!

Thanks for the replies guys.
I can reveal, for future reference, that the thread size of a 1990 gear lever is................. M14 x 1.5, which I do believe is metric fine.
