Hi, anybody used jewellers rouge for polishing out scuffs on glass? My mates got some from an on line auction house! It's a powder in a bag. Do I mix it with water or something? We both have absolutely no idea of how to use it . Any help appreciated.

We used to use it in BT for polishing. I am sure we added white spirit but need to search the back corners of my head.

It may have been liquid parrafin. Getting old is such a terrible thing!

Right, that makes it clear then, it's either white spirit, glycerine or parrafin. Then again it might be something else Only joking, I know what it's like when you know you know something... then you are not so sure! Thanks for making the effort, I will try the good old type a question search idea again. gonna try hobbytool site, thanks for that!

Liquid Parafin or Medicinal Glycerine will do the job fine. Just make sure it is a hard type paste you make and not runny.

Thanks, will bear that in mind, it's kthla by the way! (just in case it makes a difference to anything). Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I have heard of liquid paraffin, but never heard of medicinal glycerine, where can I get that?

Glycerine can be bought from your local pharmacist. He won't sell you the nitro type though

Hmmm, nitro glycerine! Gives me an idea for those toe rags who are stealing the campers in Manchester area! Mine wouldn't start this morning, checked for a spark etc. After some time I realised that there was no petrol smell as is usually the case when she won't start. Checked gauge ... EMPTY!!!. Checked my receipts and found that I had done 5 miles for £20 of petrol. Some B*****d has nicked my petrol. Anyway, at least it was only the petrol. Think they pulled the pipe off the tank. Let them try again.

Squeeze some flints into the petrol pipe... That'll teach em!!! (Maybe not, no van left isnt really a good thing!). Ps. Dont try this at home!!

you just mix jewellers rouge with water, in to a paste, and rub it on better still you really need to use tripoli rub it in well and then use rouge. but clean it well afterwards to getbrid of the tripoli and rouge
