Is this normal?

Was wondering how much play there should be at the front wheel?

I was rotating my wheels the other day & while I had one front up I noticed I could turn the wheel about 2/3 inches, at outside, before it stopped. This movement was transmitted down to the front of the gearbox.

Is this normal?

Is it wear?

In my experience, yes there will be a noticeable amount of slop in the drivetrain at each wheel, due to the number of different individual components, each with a small amount of wear. That is opposed to significant wheel 'play' in any other dimension than rotation, which would definitely be something to worry about !

Yes, as jake says, CVs and diff slack I think.. either more or less, unless the whole drivertrain snatches badly or shunts when on a constant throttle at low speed, I'd not worry about it. If you get drive take-up snatch or clonks when changing gear, then again, it'll be in the rear CVs and both diffs, the former being easier to rectify of course..
