If the bolts are rounded off you will need new ones anyway. Don't think they usually come with the joint, but vw will be able to supply you with some.

Cut them off, then you will probably find that if you cut a slot in what's left, now that the tension is off them they will just screw out. May need an impact driver to get them started.

If you have removed the nut, the ball joint should split. If its being stubborn a bit of heat should help.

Cheers,

Sam.

The upper wishbone bushes are spot welded in, you'll need to grind off the weld and replace the bushes ,weld again and re-set the camber angle ... not something your average DIY owner's going to do in a hurry.

frogman wrote: If I cut the 2 bolts holding the balljoint 2 the upper arm, do they come with a new balljoint?

The 'bolts' are socket head capscrews, is that why they're 'rounded off' ? It's an 8mm Allen key IIRC, They DON'T come with the balljoint from JK or GSF.

frogman wrote: Should that balljoint just split or is there a secret (screwed into knuckle etc)?

Once the balljoint nuts off tap the steering knuckle sharply and the joint should release, if not apply heat.

Because on some vans they do just 'undo'
