Rear CV joint and front spring knackered

Yesterday the van started making a knocking noise from the nearside rear. When I investigated it seems that the cv joint has gone. When I play with the drive shafts the nearside one really rattles when I move it from side to side and has a bit of up and down and front to back movement whereas the offside does not rattle or move the same (still moves side to side). Would I be correct in my diagnosis?

And just now I was having a mooch under the van and noticed one of my front springs has snapped  .

On the gsf website they list front springs at £54.15 each whereas JK list them as £39.95 each! Apart from price which is the best? And I assume it's best to change both and probably change my shocks whilst I'm at it? (not enough money for lowered springs/shocks before anyone suggests it  )

cheers, Shaun

Yep.. they should move in and out smoothly but not up down/forwards backwards...

Front springs.. Yep, really ought to change both and if you can afford to do the shocks its a good time too.. and worth doing the antiroll bar bushes while you are there...

cheers Tmt

So much for a cheap, mechanically hassle free summer :?

I'm having ithe work done at a local non-vw garage due to necessity. Am I best getting the shocks and springs myself or will their suppliers be similar in price to JK and GSF? There's no GSF locally but there is one near my mothers you see

JK are doing a bundle kit for the CV joints http://shop.justkampers.com/product_inf ... ts_id/9854
When I did my CV joints I replaced the lot as I couldn't work out which one was worn, also as I had the driveshafts out I put in new bearings.

if you are going to get the springs from justkampers i had the last pair of heavy duty springs that was in stock.I replaced the front springs a couple of weeks ago.The jk sales guy said end of this month for new stock in.There springs are good value compared to g.s.f and sorted out a uncomfortable ride before.

I'll enquire and if not I'll have to let the garage get the springs as I need the van for work and Solfest
