no real prob but some advice needed. Goes as follows....wait till glow plug light goes out but forget to turn key and start van, turn off, turn on and then wait again for light to go out, turn key, nothing happens. Go away for 5 -10 mins, do same and it then starts...

I did the forgetting to start bit by accident today and its always started first time from cold or hot.

question is, do the glow plugs have to 'cool' down a bit if the engine hasnt been fired before they are ready to go again ?

No don't think so, but they heat up a lot quicker maybe next time...

If there's a lot of key waggling going on, sure the ign switch isn't going intermittent?

OR an earth starting to play up (or starter solenoid connection)

Well that confirms it :)

A double whammy NO at 11:05 then..

I'd wait and see if you get any mistarts in the future.. I had a bout of that after installing rebuilt engine and its gone away now...

But bear in mind the two above (at least).
