Swapping a KPH Speedo to MPH.

Hi all,
want to swap my KPH speedo for an MPH one, and i read a while back that the small number near the bottom of the dial face [in my case it's 500] relates to the gearing of the clock, and you have to get one the same or it will read innacurately, will trying to find an MPH one with this '500' gearing be tricky?, it's for a Carat which has 70 section 14'' tyres as std. would the MPH speedo have to be off a UK spec. Carat?

got a speedo here you could take and experiment with, not sure if its dodgy as i swapped it out because the needle jumped but your welcome to it. not sure if you can just replace the face plate if the speeds line up?

Face plate can be swapped over, or swapping the pair of plastic gears will do the same thing (maybe make one good one out of the two?)

While you`ve got it in bits, clean the number wheels and needle etc with a cotton bud and some meths, brings it up mint :)

hi, buy a stick on face, theres a guy on evilbay selling them.
your GPS will not be acurate enough to calibrate your speedo, travelling with a mate and a walkie talkie! works for me!
ave a look on german e-bay theres usually nice toys there!
hope theres some help for you in that lot.

thought gps was way more accurate than a speedo, which since late eighties have been legally required to over-read, which most cars do when checked against it. idealy i'd like to avoid the stick on type faces as i want the odometer in miles too, peed off with trying to work out miles per gallon and ltrs on lpg and converting it, maths never was my strong point! thanks for the reply
