stereo wiring question UPDATE poss split charge prob?

this has got me stumped...
our stereo is wired up with a switch on the dash board, so we can flick to leisure battery or car battery. this has been working fine for ages, but seems to have had a dicky fit since me plugging something into the 12v socket last week. (might hav ebeen coincidenece i dont know) the socket stopped working and the stereo. i check all fuses and they were all fine. wiggled some wires, still nothing. changed all fuses from LB as not sure which is which and then it worked. put old fuses back in and it still worked. then it randomly stopped workign again.
the stereo will work though when the ignition is on. how can this be? this is what is stumping me.
any ideas how to fix it? its crap camping with no music!

the switch works when ignition on, ie off position turns it off... how can it suddenly onyl work when ignition is on only?

its clearly a bad connection on your leisure battery fuse array then.......... or the switch is fubar'd.

thanks mocki,
i'll take it off and have a good look. are these fuse box arrays (small black box holding about 5 fuses??) things pretty generic? just get one from maplin?

yeah, although maybe cheaper from a motorists suppliers?

try swapping round the wires on the switch, see if it works in the other position, and try the same with the fuse box, swap over the wire that runs the radio with another one that does work.......

Pete put our stereo and internal lights on the leisure battery fuse box.....I don't switch to car battery at all. I wanted to make sure we wouldn't flatten the main battery when camping and listening to music...

Why do you need to swictch?

coz like me, i guess, KS would forget to switch the radio off when she got out?
Mine is wired like that too, means you get it, turn the key, engine starts, moosic ( or in my case HAM radio) starts, turn off engine, it stops.... when campng switch it the other way and its on all the time....... mine is all off the leisure battery, with a relay to switch it via the ignition switch tho.......same thing, different approach........

poss split charge problem?

now its looking liek my split charge might have stopped working i think.. don't know though...
went away this weekend and pluged my 12v coolbox into the leisure battery whilst we were driving. (usually use car battery socket but i had my gps in there) thought it would be fine as it was chargin whilst we were driving. anyway, get there and all 12v stuff wouldn't work! the LED lights then started working a bit less bright after a while, btu if i turned the tap on for example this would go dim or off.
Leisure battery must have gone flat i think. thing is, i have been driving for about 3 hours today and the 12v stuff still wont work other than THE led lights... wondering if the LB had been really low and that was stopping my stereo from working... when we plugged the coolbox into the LB socket it would only work when I was driving. (i only use coolbox when driving as i know they use a lot of power)
Its soo annoying! How do i check if my leisure battery split charge thing is working or not? looked at all THE connections and they seem fine and fuses are fine...
any help /advice appreciated, as we're due to go away in a couple of weeks and no LB will be a nightmare with little summer...
thanks,
kathy

Voltmeter on the Leisure battery.
Engine on, Voltage should be 13V +.
Ive had inline fuses that look good but have 'gone' due to vibration.
Take them out and check them on a meter set to ohms.
Could be the relay or the signal wire from the alternator.

Kathy

There's an auto-electricians just around the corner from you, about 2 minutes down towards the lights on your road.

PM'd you the details
