diesel 50amp fuse blowing

my 50 amp glow plug fuse has blown twice now in the last couple of months?
does anyone have any idea why?
i have ordred a new glowplug relay from justkampers just waiting for it to arrive, do you think this could be the reason?
i have tested all the glow plugs and they are ok.
any advice appreciated

Sounds like either the relay or a wiring problem, fuse will only blow if too much current is drawn when the plugs are working. Sure that the plugs are all OK? Have you had a meter on them? Just done mine, very fiddly job but it can be done

well i took them all out one by one and put them across the battery and they all got hot, so i rekon they are ok.
im hoping its just the relay i have orderd one now so ill put that on when it comes and see what happens.
just wonderd if anyone else had come across this problem and maybe had a possible remedy?

Noticed that GSF sell 2 fuses for the diesel, one is 50amp and one is 80amp, dunno why there are 2 different ones rated so diferently?

Sure yours wasn`t an 80amp fuse originally?
I did read somewhere that each glowplug draws 12 amps, so 12 x 4 = 48amps, that`s why the fuse is rated at 50 amp. Wonder if there is a problem glowplug that`s drawing too much current, or maybe a bad electrical connection which will cause a higher resistance, and this is what is blowing the fuse??

ok im not sure what the original amperage was.
does anyone know what it should be?
80 amp or 50 amp?

wire them direct to the battery with a dashboard switch.

Check the wiring from the connection on the heater rail back to the relay a small nick in the cable could track to earth every now n then causing over current and blowing the fuse. Dont be tempted to wire the glow plugs straight through a switch as there is no fuse protection, also 50amps is a large load to switch most switches would burn out or weld shut hence the heater relay being there in the first place.
Try to find out the exact loading of origional glow plugs and post on here.
