We have an oil leak out of the rocker cover on the left side of the engine, and the oil is coming out of there and dripping onto the pipe below, which goes to the exhaust, this is causing it to smoke. can anyone think of a way in which i can bodge fix it, so i can divert the oil off the pipe.

Just take the rocker cover off and change the gasket.

from your pic, it looks like the wire retaining clip that goes across the tin cover is lower than it should be, it should sit in the central groove in the cover, this might not be helping keep it oiltight. the ends can corrode and stick in the cyl head, mine actually snapped when i moved it! so squirt some penetrating oil on the ends 1st, before moving it up a bit, but most likely the gasket as said above.

i'll say the same the clip ( bale ) needs prizing up ( i use flat screwdriver ) till it sits in the groove ,

quick fix untill you get a gasket, which as they above say are only pence, take the cover off and give the gasket a liberal covering with grease or petrolium jelly and refit cover, don't attempt to take gasket off if it don't fall off or it will shredd.....

Yeah your bale wire is actually hanging off there. Im amazed the rocker cover hasnt fallen off altogether! Pry it back on and it might be ok but like everyone said, change the gasket one way or another. Its a 2 minute job.
