Fitted nearside bearings in May, cheap ones from GSF (about £10 I think) it started rumbeling in the week so I thought it must be the offside so replaced them, again with cheap bearings turns out it was the nearside starting to break up after 3 months :( looks like I am going to have to do both sides with some decent ones, Any recomendations? Cheers Kit

All bearings have a number or set of numbers etched into the side of the outer race, note these and contact a bearing company, they will offer a choice of quality, usually good skf upwards and cheaper than car dealers.

Bearings are not generally vehicle specific, I havent got the time tonight to give a run down on the subject suffice to say that all you need is the numbers and talk to the B'ing co

Which axle are you referring to? Front or rear?

If you suspect that the rear wheel bearings keep on breaking up then my first point of call would be to take a good look at the CV joints. These usually cause clunking and wobbly rear wheel symptoms.

If it's the front wheel bearings, then check the stub axles for excessive wear, scoring and burring. If that is the case then the front stub axles should be replaced (if possible). Also check the adjustment of the front wheel bearings.

I hope this helps.

metalmick8y has the answer. get the numbers off the bearing, go to a bearing seller and get (skf, fag etc). japanese and german ones are usually the best. but ask in the shop, its in their own interest to provide you with the best, if the best is what you want??

did you replace the outer in the disc or just the bearing its self, you cant just put the bearing in without replacing the outer race too.

They were front bearings and it was the iner and outer, I am going to get the hub off this afternoon if I can finish plumbing in the new sink.

Ok took them out and after less tha 500 miles they were all crunchie when you spun them on your fingers. checked the stub axel thanks for that tip phade, it was ok, I concluded that it was just down to poor quality bearings.

Sits back and waits for the otherside to go :(
