Diesel cam belt tensioning

Fitted a new cam belt and roller/tensioner to my 1.6TD motor, can anyone say for definite which way you totate the roller/tensioner to tension the new belt?
It can go clockwise or anti-clockwise, or isn`t it important? It`s not obvious which way in the Bentley manual.
