That`s a relay for something, they click when energised.

its not an electronic fuel pump is it, or a cut off valve for an imobiliser

Could also be a split charge relay (energised form ignition rather than alternator)

i had this problem not to long ago the van had been struggling to start with added with that clicky noise to,had a mate come round and have a look he was five seconds took a wire off at the top end of engine bay nearest cab cleaned it off with sandpaper squirt of wd 40 and she fired up no problem at all he said it was a bad earth and dirty conection and he could tell this by everytime i turn the key the connection would glow,hope that helps a bit

the click could well be the solenoid on the starter motor doing its normal thing, starter motor coenctions could be corroded take them off and give a good clean, check the voltage at the big bolt under the rubber boot this should read similar to the voltage accross your battery see the wiki too

disconnect battery b4 you start taking starter off
it has a constant live
