Does anybody have experience of getting the rear fog lights going on a Doka?I've just brought it from Germany where they don't seem to insist on them.The rear lights seem to have a spare red lense each which also have a corresponding bulb holder. Is it possible to put a bulb in here and connect a wire from the fuse box to a switch. I would be inclined to just stick a fog lamp on and run wires front to back but it seems a shame to bodge it if there is a better,tidier method.

Hi Al, what year is your Doka? If you have just brought it over from Germany then it must be LHD & I reckon it should have one factory fitted rear fog lamp on the driver's side.

VW fitted one rear fog lamp on cars from 1979 but not sure about when they were first fitted to vans. My previous van was registered 9/80 & I'm sure it had one fitted.

I think that if you root around behind the driver's side lamp cluster you will find what should be the wire for the rear fog lamp. If you are lucky enough to find it, just extend the wire to the other rear lamp cluster.
Normally LHD owners remove the rear fog fitting from where it was originally fitted & move it to the other side. You may find that the passenger side just has a reflector but no actual fitting (bulb holder).

Iirc the Germans were the first to fit rear fog lamps as standard. It was several years befrore the UK caught up. I had a 1976 'P' Reg MK2 Escort & that didn't have a rear fog lamp!

I would be suprised if your Doka left the factory without a rear fog lamp & even more so if it isn't a TUV testable item in Germany.

Thanks for your responses.I don't actually have a fog lamp switch up front which complicates things a bit.I think your right that there should be one and that all the wiring to the rear cluster is there.I'm wondering if there is room to use 5 or6 on the the fuse holder t wire one in.

I have an 89 Westy that was imported a year ago and that did not have a fog light switch fitted. It had to have an external foglight and switch fitted to get it through its first MOT here.

errr nope,
my van has never had a foglight on the rear but it has the vw foglight switch coz of the fitted front fogs, do a search on brickyard and you will find a lot of the imported vans never had a rear fog wired up (some of us don't even have the grey/white trace wire that is shown on the vw wiring diagram).
It's not part of the tuv either, weird considering how strict they are on other stuff

Yes indeed.Grey/white cable.No switch and annoyingly clusters which appear to accept a bulb but are missing the rear contact.Problem solved with a £3 lamp which will do for MOT.I've found it cheaper to take these off after the test since they always get smashed(by me atleast) off road!

No switch fitted.I've used a cheapy until it's all sorted then I'll try for a properVW one.

2 position with tell tale, standard vw stuff

most stuff comes over with either the fog there but not wired up or it's all missing, like I said mine ain't even got the wire running front to back in the vw loom and I'm not the only one
