Hello,

I am very excited to be here.

I have in my pocession a lovely 1987 Hight Top. He is called 'Big Blue' or 'Bluie' by my 4 year old.

We will be heading to Mull in August for a trip.

I do have a couple of questions though about my van, I will post pics as soon as I can.

I noticed the tyres are different sizes, fronts a 195 R14's and the rears are 185 R14's is that ok? It looks a bit odd.

My dash lights don't work, is that an easy fix? I don't yet have a handbook, its on its way. That will do just now.

A Runrig fan, great. The first time I saw them was in Aberdeen in 1986, the bass drum pedal broke. They were awesome.

Seems quite a project you have there. Way beyond me. Thanks for saying Hi. Are there any clubs or such up here.

The last I saw a vw camper was when I drove up from Plymouth, after buying 'Big Blue'. That was in Stirling. I guess the salt on the roads in winter is just too much for them up here.

Also in Inverness - with our new 1991 Autosleeper Hightop.

Am out for a week in Orkney next week with the 10 month old so have been working on various child friendly adaptations (catch net for parcel shelf bed!)

Hope to post some stuff (pics etc.) when we get the chance.

Had first weekend away last weekend and learned lots....;-0

Good to hear from you Mikey.
We have two sons (4 and 2) we are heading away for our first trip next week to Mull. Giving the van a good check over this weekend. I was thinking about the same mod. Catch net for parcel shelf bed. I was thinking of putting the boys up there. The net being there to help keep them in. Have you come up with a solution? Just Kampers sell bungee webbing. I was going to try B&Q tonight or alike to see if they do similar. With postal strikes going on I doubt the webbing would get here in time for this trip.

Have you any tips for the friendly midge?

http://www.allplaz.com/acatalog/index.htm suipply all sorts of netting types - we went for "Pot Netting" as used for Lobster Pots! - VERY strong but possibly a bit of overkill.
Used household hooks screwed into the wooden surround to secure.

We also have another net to cover the hole where the sliding door is - so Victor can play in the van and see out (he isn't tall enough to see out through the windows yet whilst standing on the floor!.

If you are in MULL go to the campsite at Fidden - just south of Fionnphort (overlooking Iona). Everyone seems to think it is one of the best....

Fidden Farm is on my hit list. It looks wild but that is what we are after.

Thanks for the heads up with the netting. Might need some to fend of the midge that will be waiting for us
