Ok , one of the pushrod tube is weeping (oil), its been bodged with a load of sealant ( yeah really) , and i have just been living with it ,keeping an eye on the oil levels ,its lost about a pint in say 500 miles , i have a telescopic replacement so its an easy enough job , but i'm off to france next week and i cant make up me mind whether to replace it or not ...

SHOULD I ? just for piece of mind ?

i would.that way its one less thing to go wrong(not that owt will)

But would be a real bum is it started leaking faster and all of a sudden at 110kph your oil light come on somewhere in France. Then you'd really be kicking yourself.

why? don't they have oil in france? chuck the spanners in the back with the new tube and tek em with you m8,,, wot if something breaks wen you're tryin to change it this close to your trip,,, i'd put some more gunk on it fer now

I agree with Rozzo.... sort of...

Take the telescopic and if it goes wrong get it changed by a dirt cheap mechanic in one of the lovely little villages your in.

The AA european breakdown cover i had for our 7 week trip was a lot of cash - but piece of mind. However the only thing we needed them for was translating in spanish. They were brilliant. Ensured we weren't getting the wrong repair or ripped off - and even phoned up the garage to make sure it would be ready when they said it would.

It was only a top hose - but our spanish is non-existent!

Still, it would be nice to go on holiday without that on your mind...

leave it and leave the oil at halfway between min and max, I still have a hole in the side of my push rod tube via drilling problems, that was 11 months ago, it is basically smotherd in araldite not neat and not clever , but it only really leaks when the oil is topped up to the max, then stops leaking once halfway between the max and min, I have a telescopic push rod tube in the packet still since october last year. just in case one day I decide to remove it. Are you sure all your tinware wont break trying to remove it to get to the push rod tube?

so simply take extra oil with you and dont fill up to the max with the oil.

OK i bite the bullet and did it , what a frelling bodge up it was too

not seen that much sealant since i ripped out our old bath !!!

the old pushrod was covered in it ,and i mean covered

so after a load of cleaning up i've fitted a telescopic one

but i'm glad i done it ,cos i wouldn't like to lose the oil on a motorway , chances are it wouldnt have but i now have piece of mind that hopefully it wont

Agree, gotta bite the bullet sometimes, just make sure it's not depleted uranium

hope the seal on the telescopic one dunt give up on t' autoroute i'd change t'engine just in case m8
