Just a simple question, but how much is road tax for a 1.6TD?
Cheers!

We paid £175 for 12 months (before the 2007 budget). If it'll be different for you, because we've got a 1.9 petrol engine, then please accept my apologies for this useless post!
Will the DVLA website not tell you?
Cheers
Tony

........over 25 years old & built before 1973. Can be built in Dec. 1972 & 1st registered in early 1973 & still get free road tax with proof of build date.
No T25 qualifies for free road tax as they weren't built until 1979!

Oh bugger - I would have bought a 12 month one if I had known!
My last over-25 year old was a 1968, so that would be why I got a free one then.
Thanks for the wisdom.

Me thinks it's not 25 years... Me thinks it's built before 1973

Cus that's like 34 or 35 years old.. But I'm too old to count any more.
99 bottle of beer on the wall... 99 bottles of beer.. Take one down... Can't remember the rest.
Is it still Friday or is it Saturday now?

It is the '25 year rule' that we are talking about & it is well known in VW circles.
For a number of years vehicles over 25 years old were exempt from road tax. This exemption was started by the Conservatives when they were in power & it suited the late Rt.Hon. Alan Clarke MP (Cabinet Minister) as he was an avid collector of classic cars.
The Labour Government came to power in 1997 & in 1998 the then Chancellor of the Exhequer the Rt.Hon.Gordon Brown MP froze the exemption as at 31/12/1972.
Unfortunately a number of people including Highpeaker aren't aware that Golden Brown froze the exemption & they still believe that when their beloved T25 reaches 25 years of age it will be road tax exempt. It won't.
Put the sherry down Lloyd & have a nice cup of milky Horlicks & you'll feel much better in the morning.

Another point to note as well is that road tax is also subject to VED if the vehicle is made post January 2001 (from memory) - eg. Type 2 T3s produced in Zambia (VW South Africa), which will be in band F.
Any other type 2 T3 is £180.
